Chapter 6 : Our senses and their memory

Exercises

Sight and memory

We don’t say that we are doing leg exercises when we go for a walk. It is not so much a question of eye exercises as of taking the opportunity of looking. Paying more attention helps us to memorise.

The postcard game

From a packet of postcards, people choose one and each tells a story to include all the elements seen on the card.

The unknown person

Several people play: someone chooses a well-known person and describes him or her in detail, and it is up to the others to guess who it is. You then realise how little people actually notice ! So it is hardly surprising that we have such bad memories.

The instructive walk

A walk in the forest or in the neighbourhood.

Each person notes down what he or she doesn’t usually see. On your return, the report is very instructive, hearing what people had never noticed.
