Extending the horizons of memory
Check
your interests:
What triggers my memory ? Give a rating
to some subjects :
- 0 – of
no interest
- 1 – of
some interest
- 2 - of real interest
- 3 – of
great interest, even a passion
Here are a number of interests
in no particular order. Give each one a rating.

In the “others” category,
you could also put graphology, horse racing, motorcycling,
stamp collecting, snorkelling, football, tennis,
and many others. Make your list as personal as
you can. This is also a way of getting to know
yourself. If the total is under 10: it is time
to wake up. There is not enough interest to awaken
your attention. The battery is flat. Your memory
is not being called upon and is likely to give
up. You will be tempted to put it down to age,
to life, to the world…
| Things
are not interesting or uninteresting in themselves,
it just whether or not I take an interest in
them. |
The memory does
not have to be woken up, but everything that actually
keeps it awake: interest, curiosity, even passion
Memory rarely lets down the people whose passionate
interest keeps them awake. If there are no more
triggers to awaken memory, then we fall into a
lethargy and the memory follows.
Check
the stimulus in our environment: with whom
?
Remember the survey
in Peru mentioned earlier: whoever is in frequent
contact with his environment, his family, his friends,
is much more likely to have a good memory until
his dying day.
| So for you, what are your relations with
your environment, your family, your friends
?
Do
you share leisure activities, travel, projects;
do you talk about books and other subjects
? With whom ?
Keeping
touch with the people who help your body,
your heart and your mind to stay fit
is one of the recipes for a long memory.
