Memory is one facet of our mental capacity

Our mind is made up :

of INTELLIGENCE: our ability to understand
of EMOTION : our ability to love, to appreciate, to prefer
of MEMORY : what would be the use of loving or understanding if we were to forget just as fast as we understood or loved ?

Without memory, intelligence and love would be short-lived.
